This volume gathers Kohei Yoshiyuki’s infamous Park series, nighttime photographs taken with infrared film and flash in Tokyo’s Shinjuku, Yoyogi, and Aoyama Parks during the 1970s. The photographs capture illicit sexual encounters but also reveal spectators lurking in the darkness, waiting to join in. The Park points not only to issues of voyeurism and surveillance, but also suggests the loneliness and desperation inherent to love and sex.
