The unit called “Tarnen und Täuschen” (Disguise and Deception) is a special division of the German army. Their focus is the research and development of camouflage technology and the fabrication of decoy weaponry—think inflatable tanks and vehicles, or imitation land mines. Schwarzlose’s photographs frame the militarization of her visual surroundings while commenting on the relations between aesthetics and ideology.
